If You See Hans

–for B.B.

If you see Hans, tell him to bring a cart

of metal odds and ends, of things broken

Tell him to bring a bullhorn, too

that might make a strange echo

We can climb that water tower

the old rusty one that’s empty & corroded

A couple bottles to break, some drills & cans of nails

and a mic with enough feedback to make

            a deaf man go insane

Tell Hans we understand

There’s music all around

A squeaky swing

A screaming baby

A jackhammer, drills, a train

The blares of sirens

Screetch on a chalkboard

A world full of music, just waiting for ears

to embrace the notes of the noise

If you see Hans, tell him I said thank you

            to keep riding Die Wellen

            the songs of the world
